Take Care of Your Older Car
The state of the economy and the high price of new cars have caused many people to keep their cars much longer which means they will have to service their automobile more often if they going to be successful owners of high mileage automobiles. If your car has, lets say, more than 70,000 miles I would place it in this category and

there are certain things that you should be done to ensure good operating performance and low cost auto insurance.

First of all, you should have the oil changed every 3000 miles, in my view, which may considered overkill but I think it may go a long way to protecting your

car and reducing maintenance costs. Also, be sure to use a high quality oil and use the same type with each oil change. Be sure you have the oil filter replaced

with each oil change and have your service facility check the air cleaner, as well .Also, be sure to have the belts and hoses checked on a regular basis.

Periodically, check your tires and rotate them every 6000 miles. Also, be sure to check your tire pressure to ensure proper wear which may help protect your suspension system.

These suggestions may seem a little extreme to the reader but it has worked for me. One of my cars is an 1995 Toyota Camry with 80,000 miles and I have never

had a repair bill other than the preventative measures mentioned in this article. We at drivestrong.com are committed to providing auto insurance at competitive prices with good

coverage. We also strive to educate our readers so their automobile ownership and drive experience can be pleasurable.

Driving While Using Your Cell Phone
One of the major topics when discussing auto insurance and driving distractions is cell phone use and texting. It is amazing to me that there is not as much empirical

data as I expected when researching this subject. There is no question in my mind that cell phone use and texting is distracting while driving and causes

accidents. It seems that the data varies from state to state which is one of the reasons there is such a discrepancy in cell phone laws among the states. Some

states have found that cell phone use while driving increases the probability of a crash by as much as four fold and other states as low as 1.2 fold.

It is clear that texting while driving is extremely dangerous and some studies indicate that texting is more dangerous and causes more accidents than drinking and

driving.That is an amazing statistic.

Almost 75% of drivers use cell phones while driving and I would not be surprised if it is higher than that. It is the view of this writer that all states should

adopt stringent cell phone laws banning them while driving both for texting and speaking directly on the phone. I am not sure if hands free should be permitted but it

may be an effective compromise.

Some states have made driving while using a cell phone illegal and ticket the offender which will result in points added to his or her license. The insurance industry is pleased with this development as they will be entitled to charge higher premiums for those who violate cell phone laws.

Jenny asks…

Does online auto insurance quote comparison sites work?

I am shopping for auto insurance in Texas and wondering if the quotes comparison provided online are reliable. Can anyone give me a reputable that has many insurance companies to compare? Thanks.

admin answers:

You could go to an independent insurance broker that represents multiple companies and he can give you comparison quotes. I personally would recommend getting coverage from one of the larger companies such as State Farm, Farmers or Allstate.

Helen asks…

Does Obama really believe his comparison between auto insurance and health insurance is legitimate?

Even W sees the holes in that argument. Is Obama trying to fool the least of us ?

admin answers:

I agree, comparing the two is like apples and oranges.

Betty asks…

Does Saskatchewan have public auto insurance? What are premiums like in comparison with Ontario?

admin answers:

Mandatory auto insurance coverages must be purchased through the government auto insurer (Saskatchewan Government Insurance however they are better known as SGI). Comparing premiums between the two is a waste of time as the two provinces do not have the same population, populations density, climate, demographics, topography, policy coverages, etc. Might as well compare premiums between Ontario and Belgium.
